Tetrameles
Tetrameles is a large deciduous tree that can grow to over 40 meters in height, with a trunk diameter of 1 meter or more. The trunk is straight, and the base develops prominent buttress roots. The bark is pale grey to whitish.
African Mahogany
African Mahogany is a large evergreen tree with a straight trunk and a broad canopy. It is widely planted as a shade tree.
Burma Padauk
A large hardwood tree, typically reaching 20 to 30 meters in height, with a trunk diameter that can exceed 1 meter. The trunk is straight, and the broad, umbrella-shaped crown provides generous shade. Young branches are covered with fine hairs, while older branches become smooth.
HERITAGE TREES AT SAIGON ZOO AND BOTANICAL GARDENS – “LIVING WITNESSES” IN THE HEART OF THE CITY
On December 29, 2024, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in collaboration with the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment held a ceremony to officially recognize several outstanding ancient trees within its grounds as Vietnam Heritage Trees. This event not only honors the long-standing natural and cultural values of these rare botanical species, but also reinforces efforts to spread messages of green living, love for nature, and promoting environmental protection within the community.
