MIKA – THE ADORABLY POWERFUL “BOSS OF THE BEAR ENCLOSURE”

The hotline calls that had everyone worried

One day, somehow, an orange cat appeared inside the enclosure of several large bears. And that, unsurprisingly, became the source of more than a few concerned hotline calls to Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens, with visitors asking the staff to rescue “the poor little cat that had somehow fallen into the bear enclosure.”

More than once, the bear keepers had to come out and reassure visitors that this was not a dangerous situation at all. It was simply a familiar little resident who had long since become part of the bears’ world.

Mika, the true star of the bear enclosure

In a space that officially belongs to the two large bear residents, Misa and Misi, there also lives a tiny cat who seems perfectly comfortable and completely at home. Mika is not just “staying there” either. This little cat even has a cute little house of their own right inside the bear enclosure area.

As strange as this combination may sound at first, it has become one of the most charming and unexpected sights at Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens. On one side, there are the large and powerful bears. On the other, a small and playful cat. And somehow, they all share the same peaceful rhythm of life.

A “boss” who keeps to golden hours

What makes Mika even more special is a very particular “working schedule.” During the day, when the zoo is crowded with visitors, Mika is rarely seen. The cat seems to prefer a mysterious style, only truly making an appearance after 5 p.m.

When the sunlight softens, Mika will finally stroll out, walking slowly but with complete confidence. Some days, Mika lounges casually on a high ledge. On other days, the little cat sits in front of the “private house,” calmly observing everything around.

That quiet confidence often leaves visitors amused and delighted. “A cat really lives with the bears?” they ask.

The answer is yes. And Mika lives there very comfortably.

As time has gone by, Mika has developed not only an air of calm independence, but also a kind of commanding presence that sometimes seems to make even Misa and Misi a little cautious. That is exactly how the title “Boss of the Enclosure” was born.

A little star who makes everyone smile

First-time visitors who spot Mika often cannot hide their surprise. A tiny cat in the middle of the bear enclosure is not exactly what most people expect to see. The scene is both unexpected and irresistibly charming.

Children point excitedly. Adults laugh in delight. And Mika? Mika remains perfectly composed, carrying the calm authority of a true enclosure boss, as if this entire area were actually under feline management.

On some days, Mika’s mere appearance seems to soften the whole atmosphere of the bear enclosure. Amid stories of wildlife care, conservation, and the daily work of a zoo, this little cat brings a simple, deeply human kind of warmth.

A uniquely charming part of Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens

Mika is not a rare species, nor a conservation icon. And yet, this little cat has become part of the fond memories many visitors carry home from Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens. Among the zoo’s large and wild animals, Mika is a small but unforgettable presence, a true “bear enclosure idol” who makes almost everyone smile.

Mika also quietly represents the many abandoned cats who have found shelter within the zoo grounds. While they may not have a family of their own, they are still given safety, care, and kindness from the zoo staff, along with support from compassionate visitors.

So if one day you happen to see a small cat casually strolling through the bear enclosure, do not be too surprised. That is Mika, the adorably powerful “boss of the enclosure,” a small joy in the green heart of Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens.
