Founded by the French, its flora and fauna foundations were laid by a dedicated veterinarian and a passionate botanist. Through all the ups and downs of history, those roots have remained firm, allowing Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens to flourish today.

Come to Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens—not just for a timeless "check-in" spot, but to hear the Zoo tell its own story. From ancient trees representing Vietnam’s primeval forests to French architectural gems and secret wartime activities... you will see how history moved through this land, the beauty of the "Pearl of the Far East," and the resilience and wit of the Vietnamese people.

2. Experiential Education: "Nature’s Little Corner" – Learning to Love the Earth

The Zoo isn't just about viewing animals; we want to walk alongside you—especially students—to build a green lifestyle and a genuine love for nature. We believe that only when you truly understand and care for something can you learn to protect it.

We know everyone wants a "change of scenery" with nature, but not everyone has the skills or means for deep-forest trekking. Think of Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens as your "Nature 101" classroom.

In this "classroom without walls," you aren't bound by desks or dry lectures. Instead, every step reveals a miracle:

3. The Flora & Fauna Museum: Incredible Creatures

Can you believe it? Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens is "on top" with nearly 1,000 plant species and over 100 animal species, plus countless "residents" like fungi and microorganisms. It’s so vast that even we haven't fully "checked-var" (verified) every single one! Do you want to join us as "detectives" to decode this 160-year-old living database?

Even when these creatures stop breathing, we have a charming museum space to preserve their specimens. This is their final gift to us, offering a closer, more detailed, and kinder look at the natural world.

4. Zoo Perspectives: From "Flexing Power" to a "Sanctuary for the Heart"

Once upon a time, zoos were created for humans to... "flex" their power. It was about being the "Final Boss" of the biological world, using intellect to control nature. That "human-first" ego is why the concept of a "Zoo" is often at the center of endless debate.

However, as we’ve "physically impacted" nature too much, the deep forest is no longer always a safe haven. As species "fade to black" or teeter on the brink of extinction, new conservation concepts have "gone on air." Alongside in-situ conservation (keeping them in National Parks), ex-situ conservation has emerged as a vital "Plan B."

Simply put, ex-situ conservation is the final safety net—a place for gene banks, seeds, and high-quality rescue centers. Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens has played this "silent hero" role for over 160 years. We are a true home: where injured leopards from traps find support, bears rescued from bile farms find healing, and rare Red List plants can "chill" and grow. We even take in smuggled exotic creatures that have no "papers" to go home.

With all our heart, we’ve successfully helped many rare species breed. We cherish milestones like Noel the Sun Bear, Bo Sua the Tiger, or the tiny freshwater crocodiles... all living proof of our mission.

5. Supporting Internships & Field Research

Every year, Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens welcomes interns from all fields—from natural sciences to social sciences. We provide that "final lesson" before you step out of the school gates.

With our rich ecosystem, we offer an optimal platform for Science students to observe animal behavior in a semi-natural environment. Meanwhile, our deep history and diverse visitors provide a perfect "real-world lab" for Social Science students to challenge themselves and gain practical insights before graduation.

The bridge between "School and Enterprise" is a journey of transformation. Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens isn't just looking for interns; we are looking for "Connection Ambassadors"—young people ready to dive in, using empathy and professionalism to breathe new life into our mission of conservation and nature education.
